Palatable prednisolone granules to treat allergic and non-infectious inflammatory conditions of horses

Preddy Granules® is an oral prednisolone, which is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It is presented as granules packed into sachets, which are palatable and convenient.

Preddy Granules® are used as an aid in the treatment of allergic skin conditions, and chronic inflammatory non-infectious respiratory conditions in horses. It provides relief from itchiness and self-injury associated with allergy and hypersensitivity reactions.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

  • Do not administer to horses with laminitis (Founder), Corneal Ulcers or Renal Disease.
  • Do not administer to breeding stallions, pregnant mares, and foals.
  • Corticosteroids may cause abortion in pregnant mares. Corticosteroids lower the immune response to infections, and may delay wound healing and fracture repair, particularly in older animals.
  • If used on performance animals, regulations of relevant authorities regarding medication should be observed.

DOSAGE

Mix into the top layers of the morning feed, or into a small appetising feed prior to feeding the bulk of the meal.

Allergic skin conditions:

  • Initial therapy 0.5 – 1.0 mg/kg Prednisolone daily for 4 – 10 days depending on severity
  • Maintenance: 0.5 – 1.0 mg/kg every alternate day for 2 – 3 weeks, or as required
  • Withdrawal: 0.5 mg/kg twice weekly for 1 – 2 weeks where required.

Chronic inflammatory non-infectious respiratory conditions:

  • Treatment 2.0 mg/kg prednisolone daily for 5 – 7 days depending on improvement.
  • Maintenance: 1.0 mg/kg every second day for 2 – 3 weeks
  • Withdrawal: 0.5 mg/kg twice weekly for 1 – 2 weeks where required.

WITHHOLDING PERIODS

  • Meat (Horses): 63 days.

STORAGE

Store below 30°C (room temperature).

Contains 200 mg prednisolone per 5 g sachet.
