Phenax® Classic is a vaccine for sheep and goats against contagious pustular dermatitis (scabby mouth or orf).

  • Contains a New Zealand strain and manufactured in New Zealand
  • Shown in a recent, New Zealand trial to provide better visual ‘takes’ than the competitor vaccine
  • Effective and ergonomic vaccinator

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Invert and tap the applicator to allow a droplet of vaccine to fall onto the vaccination site.
  • Make a scratch (approx. 25mm) through the droplet.
  • Deposit a second droplet on the same site and scratch through it at 90° forming an ‘X’.
  • Break the skin but not so heavily that blood washes the vaccine away. The blue coloured vaccine should be visible along the scratches to ensure contact and induce a “take”.
  • A successful response to the vaccine will be indicated by a skin reaction (whitish thickened or raised area over the scratch mark with reddening of the surrounding peripheral tissue) that will be seen one week after administration. For full details refer to package insert.

Care should be taken because Phenax® Classic is a live virus vaccine that can be transmitted to and infect humans. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the vaccine, especially to cuts, scratches or abrasions. In the event of contact, wash the affected area with clean soapy water and treat with a disinfectant.
